My philosophy of design is straightforward, and consists largely of two concepts. First, as a designer, my basic goal is to facilitate communication. Whether one is considering a schedule of events at a conference or a poster designed to impart a certain feeling about an organization, the goal is the same. The visual treatment of the message should enhance its comprehension. This is often dismissed in the design of mundane information — that conference schedule, for example, or a form. But these “mundane” pieces deserve the same consideration as any project, and, interestingly, for a designer devoted to communication, they can be just as exciting to design as a book cover.

The second part of my philosophy of design is this: the relationship between the written word and the visual presentation of the message those words seek to convey is analogous to the relationship between lyrics and melody. The visual aspect of communication is the melody. It “says” the same thing — conveys the same message — as the written word. And, just like it’s easy to remember the words of a song, visual (graphic) communication (be it print or web or anything else) makes retention of the message easier.

I manage projects from inception to completion, including budget oversight, design concept and implementation, hiring and supervision of writing, photography, illustration, and printing. I’m fast and efficient, with a high level of personal productivity.
